We read Worry Says What? by Allison Edwards. The book follows a little girl whose worry monster, named Worry, won't stop following her around. At school, Worry says, "You can't do this, it's too hard." During recess, Worry says, "No one wants to play with you." Even before bedtime, Worry whispers, "What's that sound? Are you sure you're safe?"
Eventually, the girl decides that Worry will not be the boss of her anymore. Instead, she tells herself what is true. At school she says, "I can do hard things!" During recess, she exclaims, "I have lots of friends!" During bedtime, she says, "I am not afraid!"
We named our own worry monsters and developed what we can say when he tells us things that simply aren't true.
