I Spy...

Hello Families,

We played a mental math game called I Spy.  It's an easy game to replicate at home!  All you need is a deck of cards.

First, take out all the Joker and face cards.  Then, arrange your cards in rows.

Playing instructions:

1) Select a player to go first.  They scan the cards and find two cards to make a sum.  For instance, player one says,  "I spy two cards that make a sum of 11."

2) The second player collects as many cards as they can that make a sum of 11.  The first player must double check that the sum is correct! 7 and 4, 8 and 3, etc. Player 2 continues until they do not see any more possible combinations.

3) Player 1 then gets to steal any leftover combinations of 11 that player 2 didn't see.

4) When there are no possible combinations, player two scans the cards and chooses a new sum.  I spy two cards that make a sum of ____.

5) The game keeps going until there are no more cards left in the pile and each player counts their cards.  The player with the most cards win!

Alternations to make to the game:
- you can choose 3 cards to make a sum (I spy 3 cards that make a sum of_____)
- implement a timer (each player had 1 minute to collect all the cards)
